AFC Newbury Ladies Football
Match Report -- Season 2003-4
Berks and Bucks County Women's League Naphill RAF base 14th September 2003
Chesham United Ladies 10 AFC Newbury 1
The opening game of the season was against last season's league runners up and league cup winners, Chesham United. This was this team's first game and for some of the player's their first exposure to 11-a-side football. The first half was a well contested game in which both teams were finding their feet. Chesham opened the scoring early in the half but this was equalised by Kelly after an excellent cross from the right by Kendall. Although Chesham scored a second the score remained at 2-1 until the 43rd minute. Chesham scored 2 quick goals before halftime to somewhat flatter them with a halftime score of 4-1.

In the second half Chesham's experience began to tell and they scored more goals. The final score did not really represent the balance of the game as Newbury had several opportunities to score with shots form Kelly, Kendall and Emma being narrowly wide or well saved by the Chesham goalkeeper.

Hannah and Leanne also had good games reacting quickly to breaks by the Chesham forwards clear the ball. Chloe, who was in goal for this match, was voted player of the match by the opposing team.
