AFC Newbury Girls Football Under 17
Match Report -- Season 2002-3
PHYL Under 17 Girls 29th March 2003
AFC Newbury 6 Sandhurst 0
Newbury more or less dominated this game from start to finish and the score could have been much higher. Caz was in goal first half and had little to do except deal with long kicks from the Sandhurst goalkeeper. Newbury are now fielding 9 players which means plenty of substitutions but the squad is well balanced with all the players able to play is at least 2 positions. Kendal was again the biggest threat with her particularly powerful shot and she was unlucky not to score more, shooting just wide or over the bar on several occassions particularly in the first half. At half time Newbury were 4-0 up and coasting.

In the second half Sarah, Emma and Kelly went in goal for 10 minutes each and Jo played up front. None of the goalkeepers had much to do although Sarah had several opportunities to kick the ball from hand. Jo was really unlucky not to score, the Sandhurst defence contrived to stop her and on one occassion the post got in the way rebounding the ball along the goalline. Half an inch to the left it would have gone in.

Hatchwarren's defeat of Calleva and this win over Sandhurst set up an exciting final game of the season against Calleva for 3rd place in the league on the 5th April.
