AFC Newbury Girls Football Match Report
Season 2002-3
PHYL Under 17 Girls 14th December 2002
AFC Newbury 4 Calleva 0

After 2 losses against Calleva this season it was Newbury's chance to restore the balance. They certainly took the opportunity with a well deserved 4-0 win. Kelly opened the scoring after 8 minutes with a good low shot that defeated the keeper. Chelsea was in goal first half and dealt calmly with everything that came her way. Hannah effectively marked Calleva's front player out of the game. It was her who had caused so much trouble by getting behind Newbury's defence earlier in the season. Emma also dominated much of the midfield play in both halfs being strong in the tackle and distibuting the ball well.

At half time it looked like it was going to be a low scoring game. However less than a minute into the second half Kelly scored easily from a through ball by Caz. She completed her hattrick 4 minutes later. Chelsea then sealed the game with a good shot low to the keepers right from about 15 m. The day was clearly Newbury's as when Calleva were awarded a penalty for handball the shot was high and wide allowing Jo, who was in goal for the second half, to keep a clean sheet.
