Both teams fielded only 5 players in this game which was played in hot conditions on hard pitch. Amy was playing in her first game for Newbury and played the first half in goal. Jen had to leave the pitch twice during the first half with a bleeding nose after a strong defensive header. The game was less one sided than the score suggested but Basingstoke took their scoring opportunities well to lead 4-0 at half time.

In the second half Jen started in goal and Newbury started as a much more compact unit and for 15 minutes held the score at one each with an excellent goal by Nina running strongly out of defence. In the last quarter Basingstoke got the upper hand as Newbury tired. Playing 5 a side for 1 hour is very difficult in the hot conditions but at no time did the girls give up.
