AFC Newbury Girls Football Match Report
Season 2002-3
PHYL Under 14 Girls 21st September 2002
Andover New Street A 9 AFC Newbury 0

The first league game of the season for AFC Newbury under 14 was against a strong New Street A team. Unfortunately due to the lack of players Newbury had to field a team of 5. As usual Newbury played without a first choice goalkeeper so Jennifer went in goal in the first half and Lucy in the second half.

Newbury had a difficult time in the first half but some of this was undoubtedly due to first game rustiness. Andover had several chances and took them well. However Newbury did have opportunities to score and Lucy was unlucky on several occasions not to score.

In the second half the Newbury were definitely combining better as a team. All 5 players contibuted well Louise was strong at the back, Nina playing in front of Louise broke out of defence and was unlucky on at least 2 occasions not to score. Jennie-Rae was full of energy up front and Jennifer covered a lot of ground helping the defence and getting into the opponents goal area.

The score of 9-0 more reflected the quality of Andover's forwards than the match as a whole.
