AFC Newbury Girls Football Match Report
Season 2002-3
PHYL Under 14 Girls League Cup Semi-final 8th February 2003
Westwood 7 AFC Newbury 1

Despite the score this was by no means a one sided game. The score reflected the difference in league position but not the balance of play. There was no doubt about Westwood's ability to score goals and they certainly took their opportunities which often resulted from a rebound form a previous shot. Throughout the first half Newbury kept up the pressure on Westwood and had several opportunities to score but were unable to be get past the Westwood goalkeeper. The goals were spread out throughout the half but Newbury kept the score to a creditable 3-0.

The second half opened with another goal for Lucy W which made the score 3-1. Theremainder of the second half was much of the same as the first half but it was distinguished by a fine performance by Jennie-Rae who never stopped pressurising the defence causing them to make several mistakes and hurried clearances. All the Newbury players had a good game and kept going to the final whistle. Sophie was also gaining in confidence as the game progressed and also had a particularly good second half.
