AFC Newbury Girls Football Under 12
Match Report -- Season 2002-3
PHYL Under 12 Girls 8th March 2003
Hatch Warren 2 AFC Newbury 2
A high wind made this a game of 2 halves. In the first Hatch Warren played with the wind and the game was played very much in the Newbury end of the pitch. Carly, in goal, had a very impressive game commanding both the goal and giving good instructions to the defence. Newbury were unlucky to conceed the first goal, early in the game, when a strongly hit goalline clearnce hit an incoming Hatch Warren player and rebounded into the net giving Carly no chance. Just before halftime Hatch Warren got behind the Newbury defence and scored a well taken goal to give Hatch Warren a 2-0 lead.

In the second half the game the wind favoured Newbury and Poppy scored 2 well deserved goals to tie the score. The first of the goals was particularly well taken solo effort where she ran out of her own half a beat the goalkeeper with a fine strike. The last 5 minutes was very tense as both teams had scoring opportunities and either team could have won. This was a good game despite the wind and a draw was a fair result.
