AFC Newbury Girls Football Match Report
Season 2002-3
PHYL Under 12 Girls League Cup 1st round 2nd November 2002
AFC Newbury 4
Andover New Street B 3

This match was played 5-a-side which meant that Newbury were playing with a substitute. Newbury were in reasonable control of this match for most of it the game but never made their dominance really tell. Andover stuck at the game throughout and kept the game really interesting right up to the end. In the first half both Rachel and Grace had opportunities to settle the game but were let down by the final touch allowing the ball to get away from them before shooting. Rachel opened the scoring 6 minutes into the game but Andover equalised midway through the half. Within 2 minutes Poppy then scored her first goal this season and Rachel scored again just on half time to give Newbury a comfortable 3-1 lead.

3 minutes into the second half Rachel scored again. However Andover did not give up and were rewarded with a second goal a few minutes later. Midway through the second half Carly and Rachel swapped the goalkeeper shirt to allow Carly onto the pitch for the first time this season. Newbury were controlling the game but with 3 minutes to go Andover scored an unusual goal with the ball hitting the crossbar and bouncing of the back of Rachel straight to an Andover forward who took the opportunity to put the ball in the back of the net. This resulted in an exciting last 3 minutes as Andover tried for the equaliser to put the game into extra time.
