U17 League v Farncombe

Won 2-1

Playing 5 against a Farncombe side also restricted to 5 players this game was quite evenly matched. The conditions were completely different to recent games. It was hot and sunny and the pitch was hard which meant the the ball was bouncing high and running on. Both teams defended well although Newbury had more opportunities to score in the first half. Kelly scored a somewhat unusual goal direct from a corner kick with the ball squeezing in at the near post off the goalkeeper.

In the second half the game continued much as it was in the first half but Farncombe broke out of defence and took a good goal after about 10 minutes. Caz put Newbury ahead again with a low shot to the right of the keeper. Farncombe gave Newbury a nervous last 5 minutes but Newbury held on to the 2-1 win.
